At Form and Face, we work hard to ensure that our patients are happy with the results of liposuction. The happiest patients are the ones who work hard with us. They contribute to the success of their surgery by doing their homework to get ready for liposuction.
How do you prepare for this popular body-contouring treatment? We’re so glad you asked…
8 Ways to Get Ready for Liposuction
At Form and Face, we do our best to make it easy for our patients to prepare for their procedure. Each patient consults personally with Dr Norris and is given a printed set of instructions. Some of those instructions are do’s and don’ts to follow prior to surgery. Other instructions help our patients prepare in advance for any post-surgical needs.
No less than two weeks before liposuction, you should:
- Eat Well – A well-balanced diet, with a good mix of fresh fruit, veggies, and healthy proteins will work to get your body ready for the demands of liposuction. If you’re not sure what foods to choose, check out the 3-Day Diet Menu before Surgery published by Livestrong.com
- Adjust Your Meds – Certain prescription medications, OTC drugs, and nutritional supplements can have negative effects on your body’s clotting ability. Discuss your pill plan with your doctor and be sure to follow his/her advice regarding when to stop and re-start your medications.
- Say Goodbye to Cigarettes – Smokers are at increased risk for chest infections following anaesthesia. Furthermore, smoking reduces blood flow to your skin, which can affect your surgical outcome.
- Clear Your Schedule – It’s important to go into your surgery with a clear head and a calm mind. Do whatever you need to do to put work and other obligations on hold so that you can recover without worry.
- Arrange for Transportation – Someone will need to pick you up after surgery. Rather than wait until the last minute, take care of this step early…and schedule a back-up, too, just in case.
- Fill Your Prescriptions – You will likely receive a prescription for antibiotics to help you fight infection and possibly some pain medication. Have your prescriptions filled prior to surgery so that your meds will be waiting for you when you get home.
- Stock Up – Purchase everything you’ll need for your return home. Check your instruction list and make sure you have your medical supplies such as a compression garment and cold packs (for swelling).
- Prepare for Fun – Stock up on things that make you happy: books, flowers, video games, and anything else that will help you pass the time. Schedule “play dates” with friends and families so you don’t get blue staying home alone.
