Otoplasty (Ear Surgery) is an operation performed to improve the appearance of prominent ears by setting them back so they lie closer to the head. Children with prominent ears can be teased mercilessly in the school-ground and this operation is often performed after the age of 4 years, just before starting school.

Adults with prominent ears have often put up with ridicule throughout their childhood and will often comment after the operation that they wish they had done it earlier.

There are a number of different methods for improving prominent ears but all involve some sort of alteration of the cartilage framework.
