A breast lift, otherwise known as a mastopexy, is performed to raise, firm and reshape breasts that are sagging. The procedure involves removing excess skin to tighten the surrounding tissue and to reshape and support the new breast contour.
For women whose nipples points down or sit below the inframammary fold, known as breast ptosis, a mastopexy can raise the position of the nipples.
The internal breast tissue can also be reshaped during a breast lift. Some women find that their areolas (the darker skin around the nipples) become enlarged over time, and a breast lift can reduce this also.
