When some women visit Form and Face, they burst into tears during their consultation. They’re emotional about the fact that they have a negative body image and a bad relationship with their own breasts. Some have been ridiculed for their small cup size, while others judge themselves harshly for breasts that have deflated after childbirth and breast-feeding.
Many of them have lost faith that they will ever feel good about themselves again.
How Form & Face Helps Patients Love Their Breasts
After we give patients a tissue (and a hug), we give them hope. We introduce them to the wide range of cosmetic breast augmenation procedures we offer at our practice:
The next time patients cry, it’s usually tears of joy. Those come as they express their gratitude to Dr Norris for contouring their body so beautifully and giving them breasts they truly love. Then, they often make this unexpected statement:
“I don’t know how to enjoy my new breasts.”
Retail Therapy: 4 Tips for Shopping After Augmentation Mammoplasty
Many women become accustomed to feeling embarrassed or ashamed of their breasts and keeping them hidden, even from themselves. They’ve lost touch with the pure joy of feeling good about themselves and their bodies. After breast enhancement surgery, they’re confused about their body’s beautiful new addition.
The confusion is understandable. It takes time to adjust to any change, whether it’s a haircut or implant surgery. It will take between four and six weeks for post-operative swelling to go down and for your breasts to have their final position. For some, newly enhanced breasts can feel like they belong to someone else.
Here are some things you can do to help you start a friendship with your newly enhanced breasts:
- Buy a beautiful bra – Immediately after surgery, you’ll be wearing a sports bra with soft supportive cups to promote healing. Once you get the okay from your surgeon, however, you can have a ball looking at all the bra types, styles, and trends that are right for your new figure. You might want to consider putting your breasts in the hands of a professional bra fitter.
- Dive into a new bathing suit – You don’t have to wait for swimsuit season to start trying on bathing suits. Standing in front of the mirror will be a pleasure, and it will give you a chance to really study your curves.
If your breasts are now significantly larger than they were, you’ll need to focus on a style that offers a different level of coverage and support. Halter-tops are ideal.
- Get out of your box – Women who are unhappy with their curves often dress in boxy, shapeless clothing. Don’t be that girl! Show off your curves in fashions that are fitted. Look for princess seaming in dresses and blouses, and choose fitted, rather than boxy sweaters.
- Check your neckline – Your breast enhancement surgery is a triumph, and that can help remind you to think “V for Victory” when you are looking at the necklines of clothing. A V-neck is slimming and an excellent way to draw eyes to your décolletage. For a less revealing look, go with a cowl neck.
Try these tricks and we guarantee that before long, you and your breasts will be the BFFs they were meant to be.
