give you a detailed assessment and treatment care plan, including a
recommended treatment schedule and the total costs. Your specific needs,
budget, and lifestyle will be factored into this assessment.

Costs may vary and will depend on the following factors:

  • The number of syringes needed to achieve the results
  • Practitioner’s fees
  • Medical facility or clinic fees
  • The body area/s needing treatment

At what age should you start to have facial volume loss treatments?

Wrinkles start to occur in the mid-20s to 30s due to repetitive facial
expressions, genetics, lifestyle, and other factors.

  • You should be at least 18 years old, according to Medical Standards.
  • Usually, patients start treatments in their late-20’s to early 30’s, but they begin when issues become more apparent
  • Collagen production starts to decline in our late 20’s.

How long do facial volume loss treatment results last?

The treatment can last 6-18 months, depending on the type of substance used. Results may vary due to lifestyle, diet, age, and genetic factors.

  • Longevity will depend on your skin condition, skin type, age, amount and type of the injected substance, lifestyle, and how you care for the treatment site
  • The effects of the treatment are not permanent because your body slowly absorbs it.
  • To maintain the results, you may need touch-up treatments 6-12 months after your initial session.
  • The substance attracts and binds with water, so it is essential to stay well hydrated to maintain the results.

What is in a facial volume loss treatment?

Most facial contouring treatments contain a naturally occurring substance found in the human body, primarily within the skin, connective tissue, and eyes. When injected into the dermis, sub-dermis or deeper tissue planes, the substance adds volume and promotes hydration by attracting moisture.

Another type is calcium-based. It provides less volume and is placed deeper into the tissue plane. It is not suitable for lips or fine lines.

  • At Form and Face Clinic in Sydney, we use only professional brands of facial contouring treatments
  • Facial volume loss treatments are placed into specific areas to alter the facial contours
  • Over time, the body will absorb the substance.
  • The effects of the substance can be reversed by using an enzyme.
  • In many instances, we will combine facial volume loss treatments with wrinkle treatments

What are the common side effects of the treatment?

Side effects are uncommon but can develop. Any rare side effects will be discussed in detail at a thorough consultation. After the treatment, you may experience any of the following:

  • Bruising, swelling, and redness
  • Itching or a mild stinging sensation
  • Pimple-like bumps
  • Asymmetry

Most of these discomforts disappear after a few days and can be relieved with ice packs and/or an antihistamine. If a cannula is used, makeup may be used after 6 or 12 hours. If you notice any unusual signs or symptoms after the treatment, consult your Cosmetic Nurse or the clinic immediately for further evaluation and management.

What should I avoid after the treatment?

    • Avoid alcohol for 48 hours.
    • Minimise kissing, whistling, smoking, or using straws for 48 hours.
    • Minimise makeup, moisturiser, or lipstick for 6 hours.
    • Try to avoid sleeping in the treated area for 48 hours.
    • Avoid strenuous activities for 24 hours.
    • Avoid active ingredients in your skincare regimen, such as scrub exfoliants, retinols, glycolic, lactic and salicylic acids, and Vitamins A(retinoic acid) and C (ascorbic acid), on the area treated until the injection sites have healed.
    • Avoid laser, skin peels, waxing, cosmetic tattooing, or other facial procedures for two weeks.

Will I look natural after the treatment?

These treatments can produce different results for every patient, as every face is different and should be treated as such. Your Cosmetic Nurse will endeavour to give you an outcome that aligns with your realistic expectations.

During your initial consultation, we will assess your expectations to determine which type of treatment will suit your needs.

What Causes Volume Loss

Facial volume loss is primarily attributed to the natural ageing process, during
which the skin loses collagen and fat, leading to changes in facial contours. Genetics, lifestyle choices, and environmental exposure also significantly influence the rate and extent of volume loss. Over time, these changes can alter facial appearance, affecting the cheeks, temples, and other areas.

Understanding the precise causes and effects of facial volume loss is crucial for determining the most effective management approaches. At Form And Face, our consultations thoroughly examine these underlying factors, offering insights into their role in facial ageing.

Area of Concern

Vertical cheek lines, often called “accordion lines,” often result from age- and lifestyle-related collagen loss and repeated contraction of the facial muscles. Facial volume loss treatments can address this by adding volume and fullness and helping the body increase collagen production. Usually, the target area is first treated with a substance that inhibits the contractions of the muscles responsible for wrinkling. After that, facial volume loss treatments are administered.

Facial volume loss treatments injected at the lateral sides of the brow or near the inferior brow hairline can help address concerns about low-positioned brows.

Depending on factors such as age, sleeping position, or genetics, the delicate area under the eyes may begin to lose volume.

Contour changes in the forehead and temples start to show with weight loss, increased exercise, and ageing.

Low or lax cheeks can become a concern and lead to jowling.

Deep smile folds, called nasolabial folds, run from either side of the nose to the mouth.

Downward turning of the mouth corners often occurs as part of the natural
ageing process.

Facial volume loss treatments can be injected into the jawline to adjust its
structures. This can often be an alternative to surgical implants.

These lines are often caused by smoking, repetitive puckering movements, or
ageing.

As we age, our lips start to lose volume and become thinner.

Ageing combined with the natural effects of gravity and volume loss can lead to earlobe thinning or laxity.

Acne often leaves scars or small depressions on the face. Facial volume loss treatments address the volume loss and stimulate collagen production in the area. This treatment is often used in conjunction with laser resurfacing for scarring.
