According to several university studies, a woman’s eyes are one of her most attractive features as far as the male species is concerned. Why? One theory is that larger eyes indicate higher levels of oestrogen, making a woman with large eyes a better choice for mating.

Eyes are often one of the first areas of the face to show ageing. Cosmetic injectables can preserve eye youth for a while. Over time, however, drooping of the upper lids and bags under the eyes can rob the face of its youth. This can make the eyes themselves look smaller and less attractive, which can’t be remedied with injectables alone.

Eye-conscious patients who visit our Bondi Junction practice meet with Dr Benjamin Norris, an experienced surgeon who specialises in facial transformation. After assessing their needs, he may recommend blepharoplasty, a surgical eyelid rejuvenation treatment that delivers spectacular results.

Many visitors to our offices combine eyelid surgery with other procedures, such as a facelift or brow lift. This enables them to rejuvenate the entire face, not just their eyes. Combining procedures in this way is a rapidly growing trend in cosmetic surgery in Sydney and throughout Australia.

Is Eyelid Rejuvenation Right for You?

Eyelid surgery is generally not recommended for people in their 20’s and early 30’s, as the fine lines and wrinkles that are ageing their eyes can be refreshed using less invasive methods. Blepharoplasty is recommended for people over the age of 35, and is considered appropriate for patients as old as 85.

As well as age, the following conditions suggest that you are a good candidate for eyelid rejuvenation surgery:

  • Sagging or loose excess skin on the upper eyelids
  • Puffiness in the upper eyelids or under the eyes
  • Excess skin on the lower eyelids
  • Crepey skin and fine wrinkles on the lower eyelid
  • Bags and dark circles under your eyes
  • Drooping lower eyelids

About Eyelid Surgery in Bondi Junction

Eyelid surgery usually takes 1-2 hours to perform. Some surgeons perform the procedure in a hospital, but our patients can have their surgery right here at Form and Face. Our practice was purpose-built with everything we need to treat our patients in-house. Being in familiar surroundings and attended to by familiar faces gives our eyelid surgery patients an extra level of comfort and security.

For blepharoplasty, incisions are made in the creases in the upper eyelids and underneath the lashes in the lower lids. These incisions give the surgeon access to fat beneath the skin and let them trim excess skin and sagging muscles.

The incisions are closed with very fine sutures.

After blepharoplasty, the eyelids are likely to feel tight as the anaesthetic wears off. Bruises will develop in 48-72 hours, but they fade and disappear about a week after surgery. Stitches will be removed after about five days, which helps reduce swelling and bruising.

You will be able to watch television and read two or three days following surgery and go back to work as soon as you feel you can.

If you live in Sydney, we invite you to contact our offices to learn how Dr Norris and our team can help you rejuvenate your eyes and refresh your appearance.
