Breast Augmentation: No Longer a Trend?

Don’t be confused. When we say that breast augmentation is no longer a trend, we don’t mean it’s losing popularity! According to CNN, procedures that enlarge and/or change the shape of the breasts were the most popular cosmetic procedure in 2016. Trends come and go, but breast augmentation is clearly here to stay. At Form and Face, breast implants and breast lifts are definitely in demand.

Breast augmentation has been a mainstay of aesthetic enhancement for decades. During that time, techniques and silhouettes have changed to keep up with the changing fashion of breast shapes. Let’s talk about what’s “in” in 2017…

Spilling Over Down Under with Kylie Jenner

Cleavage is one aspect of breast beauty that never seems to go out of fashion. The amount of cleavage, on the other hand, has gone from boyish Kate Moss breasts to bigger-than-life Pam Anderson boobs. Now there’s a new kind of cleavage on display: under-boob cleavage. “Showing the side or “under-breast” just offers a fresh appeal to a classic,” plastic surgeon Peter Capizzi told the Hollywood Reporter. “Under-boob cleavage has a more natural appearance. It allows one to play up the natural sensuality of a woman’s breast in a more formal setting.”

Under-boob was decidedly on display at the decidedly formal 2017 Grammy Awards. Wearing a top that seemed to defy the laws of gravity, Lady Gaga showed off impeccable reverse décolletage. Singer Rihanna wore a high-cut orange crop top from Armani Prive, giving onlookers an eyeful of under-boob and an under-breast tattoo, as well. The look has also been seen on style-setter Kylie Jenner, photographed wearing a breast-revealing jumpsuit in West Hollywood.

Are Your Breasts Due for Some TLC?

Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is intended to change the appearance of a woman’s breasts. Breasts are typically enlarged with surgical implants that are available in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and materials. The recently developed “gummy bear breast implants” have more projection at the bottom and are tapered at the top.

Gummies are popular for their firm consistency and natural feel. They are an alternative to more traditional round and teardrop breast implants. “Gummy bear breast implants aren’t always the best choice,” warns Dr Norris. “If the implant is badly inserted, it can lead to problems that will require a second surgery to correct.” Additionally, the placement of gummy bear implants requires that the surgeon make a longer incision in the skin.
